Did your child come home recently raving about a special art class at school? You can thank our amazing Artist in Residency, Andrea DiPalma for that! We were honored to have had her sharing her talents and skills with the students in the classroom. Just look at what they’ve created!
Since 1995 Andrea has been teaching artists how to sculpt and create using unique materials such as clay and wire. This week our kiddos are getting a unique look at wire art! As a graduate of the UO Fine Arts Department and creator of Dancing Hands Ceramics, her expertise is truly appreciated in the Chinese Immersion classrooms. She is involved in the community in many ways including the West African Cultural Arts Institute and Lane Arts Council. And did I mention how incredibly kind she is???
It has been an honor to have her in our classrooms this week! Please show your thanks in the comments below!!
You Are Invited…..
Come enjoy a fun filled night with your family and friends. Friday, September 13th, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the school (1155 Crest Drive, Eugene). We will be having a family-focused celebration of the annual holiday Mid-Autumn Moon Festival (aka. Moon Festival). This is a traditional evening celebration held the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar across the Chinese-speaking communities. We’ll share some of the legends, dances and cultural practices associated with honoring this full moon and our family ties. We’ll watch each class perform, eat delicious food and celebrate our growing school!
How can I help?
SING: Practice your child’s class song(s) with them before Friday. Need help with your child’s song? Find videos and lyrics help from parent volunteer Phoenix (Fifi) Heffron on our private Facebook group.
LEND A HAND: Have some time to help? Reach out on Facebook or email (Fifi Heffron fifi.heffron@gmail.com or Kim Meadows evnkim.meadows@gmail.com) and let us know your availability. We have many tasks we’ll be doing through out the week as well as during the event…many hands will make light work!
SUPPORT: If you can indulge your kiddos, we’ll have some fun themed items to buy, all proceeds going to support CI PTO events and projects. We’ll have stick lanterns, glow sticks, t-shirts, bags, chapstick and food. Cash only please.
